a Middle English merger of Old English line "cable, rope; series, row, row of letters; rule, direction," and Old French ligne "guideline, cord, string; lineage, descent" (12c.), both from Latin linea "linen thread, string, plumb-line," also "a mark, bound, limit, goal; line of descent," short for linea restis "linen cord," and similar phrases, from fem. of lineus (adj.) The earliest sense in Middle English was "cord used by builders for taking measurements;" extended late 14c. to "a thread-like mark" (from sense "cord used by builders for making things level," mid-14c.), also "track, course, direction." Meaning "limit, boundary" (of a county, etc.) is from 1590s. The mathematical sense of "length without breadth" is from 1550s. From 1530s as "a crease of the face or palm of the hand." From 1580s as "the equator." Sense of "things or people arranged in a straight line" is from 1550s. So when I bought the car the head gasket was going out but it still made full boost. after replacing the hg the car won't make over 3-4 lbs of boost. It has an AGP wastegate and an aftermarket intake pipe with a Greddy style bov. I'm assuming there's something wrong with my vacuum lines but I've spent hours messing with it and looking up different diagrams. Previous owner had removed most of the lines but it made 20lbs easy before I took it apart so I know it's not because I'm missing lines I'm... Step 1: Assemble the Vacuum Chamber A quality high vacuum chamber is required for the fusor to operate. Sometimes an appropriate chamber can be found on eBay, but generally it is best to make one. Parts can be scrounged for several hundred dollars, or purchased new for $500+. Get two stainless steel hemispheres, purchase two corresponding conflat-flanges (8" flanges in my case), bore out holes for accessory flanges, and then TIG weld it all together. Flanges are typically either of the KF or...

I’ve just bought my first Legacy (and first turbocharged car) and could really use some help from those more experienced in fixing an issue I’m having. It’s a 2001 JDM Legacy B4 RSK twin turbo. When under load the first turbo works seemingly fine from about 2000-4000 RPM’s before cutting off. I then lose a lot of power and have trouble gaining any until I’m closer to 5500 RPM’s. The car can hardly accelerate on the highway. A boost leak can be heard when trying to engage the larger turbo at 45...
So yesterday I was changing a headlight bulb and when I started the car and then checked to make sure the headlights were both working, I heard a hissing sound. I decided to pop the hood and check it out while also doing a quick a/c boost before it gets too hot out... and found two broken hoses. They're pretty small and one of them is blowing (what I hope is) air, causing the hissing sound. Went to a local chain auto parts place, asked if someone could come out to help me identify them so I co...

If you were to line up every automatic transmission that GM ever produced, you’d be hard pressed to find one that is larger than the turbo 400. It is just huge. If it was lined up with a 200-4R , TH350 , or 4L60E it would be easy to identify a TH400.

I picked up a 2002 WRX and it needed the intake put back on. I figured no big deal, learning opportunity and fun project. Needless to say, I'm in over my head. I understand the main intake tubing (Filter > turbo > intercooler > intake manifold) but there are all the vacuum lines and all that that I just do not understand. I can't find any helpful diagrams either. Any help is appreciated!

I've tried to post a diagram but for some reason it isn't working from my phone, let me know if it will be helpful and I will try to describe it in words. There is a catch-can on my late 60s era 250ci inline 6. I understand that one is probably necessary vs just a valve cover vent filter due to the forced induction, however the system in place doesn't make a lot for sense to me. The PO did some things ok and something are absolute hack jobs and I'm trying to figure out which category this syst...

1540s, "emptiness of space," from Latin vacuum "an empty space, vacant place, a void," noun use of neuter of vacuus "empty, unoccupied, devoid of," figuratively "free, unoccupied," from Proto-Italic *wakowos, related to the source of Latin vacare "to be empty" (from PIE *wak-, extended form of root *eue- "to leave, abandon, give out"), with adjectival suffix -uus. Properly a loan-translation of Greek kenon, literally "that which is empty." Meaning "a space emptied of air" is attested from 1650s. Vacuum tube "glass thermionic device" is attested from 1859.
